New Land

Fourth of July might be just another day to some of you. To me it’s much more! I believe America is the best country in the world to live in. My family of five came to Jamestown North Dakota from Austria I in 1950, nun of us spook a word of English. My uncle Jake sponsored us. We all worked on their farm milking cows plowing the fields, etc. Six months later my aunt found me job working for a couple with two little girls. I was with them for a year and I learn English to speak from the girl’s. After I left the Olson’s household I worked in a Café. Two years later my folks left my uncles farm and worked in town and saved enough money to buy their own Farm. I left Dakota in 1955, and moved to California. I became US Citizen in 1960, and it was an importuned “Day” for me! When we were sworn in and I throw the little plastic green card into a basket and were declared Citizens, I was on a special high because now I could “Vote.” We should all support our country, and if you live here you should learn to speak the language and strive to be the best Citizen you can be.

“I feel privileged to be an American.”
