For Fathers Day

Fathers Day is just around the corner. As a child during World War II, I was separated from my father for four years. We were to be reunited. During the two day train trip, I hoped I would be picked up alone, by my father so I wouldn't have to share him with anyone eles. I was lucky, he was alone. When I stepped on the lower step of the train and saw his sweet face I threw myself into his arms and rubbed my soft cheek against his stubbly one. The scent of him brought a flood of memories back and I started to cry. As he wiped my cheeks he whispered, My little Mariechen, you have grown into a beautiful young lady, and he kissed my cheek. I could see the love shining in his eyes and I knew I was safe now.
